Why is the LED On My MEAN WELL Battery Charger Not Illuminated When Switched On?

We sometimes take calls from customers with a MEAN WELL battery charger in their caravan, which does not show a light when it is powered up.

Theoretically speaking, this should not be possible. 

There should be a green light if the battery is fully charged or a red light if the battery is being charged.  

Naturally, if this has happened to you, you may suspect the charger is faulty because there is no light.  

After doing some testing, we discovered that if a solar charger is charging the battery at the same time, the MEAN WELL charger will stop charging and the lights will go out.  

As soon as the solar charger stops charging, for instance when the sun goes down, the MEAN WELL battery charger will start up again.  

This is not a concern and if you are worried, we ask you to check the charger’s lights are on at night when your solar charger is not working.
