Input Current Range of the MEAN WELL TDR-960-24

We recently had a customer contact Power Supplies Australia, who was considering using 4 of the MEAN WELL TDR-960-24s in parallel.

 

They needed some further information about the range of input current they could expect to be drawing across the total power range.

Unfortunately, there are no plots available from MEAN WELL showing input current vs output current. 

However, we could tell the customer what to expect.  

The MEAN WELL TDR-960-24 power supplies are 94% efficient. This means that if the load is 960W, the input power will be about 1,020W. This translates to an input current of about 1.5A at 415V. 

 At ½ power, 380W, the efficiency will be a little bit worse so the input power will be a little bit more than ½ of 1,021W, maybe 520W. This will be about 0.8A at 415V 

The input power will follow the output power in a nearly linear fashion, except that with no load, there will be a few watts of input power used just to keep the electronics running.
